WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?
Apprenticeship describes a three year (6000 hour) program of on-the-job and related training.
On-the-job training requires moving from work area to work area within a shop or shipyard. You will be working with a journeyman to learn all facets of the trades.
Related training consists of attending school two nights a week, three hours per class, for a period of approximately three years. (The school takes a three month break each summer.) Related training is mandatory and is completed after working hours at the scheduled class time.
The first six months (1000 hours) of your Apprenticeship is probationary. You can be released or terminated from work during this period if you do not fulfill your obligations as an apprentice, or if your employer is dissatisfied with your work progress for any reason.
